Born in the state of Virginia and raised partially in the city of Newport News, JDT is a VA native at heart. Due to the multitude of living environments during his childhood, he grew up exposed to different people, cultures, and ways of life. In an effort to get closer to family in North Carolina, JDT moved to the the oak city, Raleigh. It was there that he first experienced the joy of creating music.
After some family influence and a variety of musical training, his sophomore year of high school marks when the seal on his creative mind was truly cracked. Meeting italic, fellow co-founder and a member of Fifth Point, took JDT on his first steps towards pursuing rap. His first single, “Wham” dropped in 2015, and is his most played solo track to date. That same year, not long after, italic dropped the groovy and playful track, “Kinda Gotta Thing” featuring JDT which further proved their artistic ranges. During his senior year, JDT and italic performed italic’s single “Unstoppable” in front of 2,300 people for their first live performance.
Senior year came and went, and JDT left for Lynchburg College, where he released his first solo project BLACKHOKAGE. More than fueled by just a passion for music, this project was a work of therapy for him. Touching on his problems leading up to, and during his stay at LC, as well as internal struggles that had developed his entire life, this helped clear his mind and perspective on his decisions, or lack there of.
Having spent half of his life in two different states, JDT has always struggled with finding something that resembled a traditional home for him. So he made his own when he moved to Norfolk, VA with italic after deciding to not return to college. Now, with nothing but open waters and his own destiny ahead of him and Fifth Point, JDT is eager to hit the world hard and with the best music he is capable of.
